Royal Harwich Yacht Club is a recognised RYA Training Centre
TRAINING PROGRAMME 2008 All our Instructors are qualified to RYA standards. Please remember that courses are often held in response to demand, so do let us know what you want, fill in the slip, or email the Office. If you have individual needs let us have an opportunity to see if we can deliver suitable training, designed for you. Fees indicated are for members of other Clubs. There is a discount for RHYC & CA members. RYA Marine Radio Short Range Certificate. The short range certificate is the radio operator qualification which authorises the holder to operate a VHF radio telephone, fitted with a digital selective calling (DSC) on board any British vessel which is fitted with radio equipment. Holders of the 'old' VHF licence will need to upgrade their qualifications if they purchase new equipment. RYA Day Skipper Shorebased The Day Skipper course is intended to equip a sailor with enough knowledge to navigate around familiar waters by day, and a basic knowledge of lights is also included, in case you arrive back in darkness . It takes 40 hours with two exam papers. Usually, at Royal Harwich the course runs over 5 or 6 days (weekdays or weekends).Students are consulted about convenient dates. RYA Coastal Skipper RYA Radar Sailing yachts and motor cruisers increasingly have radars on board for collision avoidance and as an aid to navigation. The International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea states that if you have Radar on board you must know how to use it. The course starts from basics by looking at the way a radar set works and then goes on to demonstrate how the different adjustments and features available affect the working of the set. Other subjects covered include target definition, radar reflectors, types of Radar display, Radar plotting and the use of radar for navigation and collision avoidance. One day course.
