Saturday 23rd February “Well-kept secrets of the Netherlands ” by David Broad and Louise Busby
With 6000km of navigable waterways, the Netherlands offers one of the most extensive yet compact cruising grounds in Europe . From commercial arteries to ancient backwaters, waterways in the Netherlands come in all shapes and sizes and even some new mast-up routes have been unearthed during this voyage of discovery. Boating is a national pastime for the Dutch and far from being permanent features, they regard their waterways, which cover 18% of the country, as opportunities for continuous improvement. Opening bridges replace fixed ones, and new naviducts are built, all in the pursuit of enhancing the network for national and international users alike. Measuring bridge heights and documenting uncharted waters were all part of the journey made by Louise & David, and during the talk they will lift the lid on some of the best-kept secrets of this water-loving country.
Saturday 15th March “Tuesday'n'me: a Shakedown Cruise”, by David Foreman
Two days after finishing work & starting his retirement, David started his cruise, from Orford to the Artic Circle & back, trying to test his boat, to see what might break, before setting out across the Atlantic . He made few stops on the East coast of England , then sailed up the West Coast of Norway, through spectacular scenery.
