Junior Racing Week 2006

NOTICE OF RACE

1 RULES
The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing and the RHYC 2006 Sailing Instructions. Competitors should note that the Royal Harwich Yacht Club implements the RYA Racing Charter and that they will be required to undertake to sail in accordance with the Charter, which can be found at the front of the RYA rule book (Racing Rules of sailing 2005-2008).

.2 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
•  The regatta is open to dinghies sailed by members of RHYC or other sailing clubs who will be aged over 8 and under 19 on 31 August 2006 .
•  There will be separate starts for Oppies and Toppers and any other classes (last year there were Laser and National 12 fleets) for which a sufficient number of entries have been received by 25 August 2006 . There will be a handicap fleet or fleets for any boats for which there are insufficient entries to have a separate start.
•  Eligible boats may enter by completing the Entry Form and sending it, together with the entry fee, to Royal Harwich Yacht Club, Woolverstone, Ipswich , IP9 1AT by Thursday 25 August 2006 .
•  Late entries will be accepted on payment of a late entry fee.

3 FEES
3.1 Entry fees are as follows:

Class Fee
Single handed dinghies £18.00
Two person dinghies £30.00

3.2 A late entry fee of £5.00 per boat will be payable for entries received after 25 August 2006 .

4 SCHEDULE
•  Registration: Tuesday 29 August 2006 from 09.30 to 11.30 hours.
•  Dates of racing: Tuesday 29 August August to Friday 1 September 2006 .
•  There will be either two or three races each day at the discretion of the Race Officer.
•  The scheduled time of the warning signal for the first race is 12.00 hours on Tuesday 29 August 2006 . The time on subsequent days will be displayed on the notice board at RHYC but will not be earlier than 12.00 hours.

 5 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
The sailing instructions will be available after 12.00 hours on 27 August 2006 at RHYC.

 6 THE COURSES
•  Racing will take place on the River Orwell outside the main channel opposite RHYC and Pin Mill.
•  The courses to be sailed will be as determined by the Race Officer and will be displayed on the Committee Boat.

 7 SCORING
7.1 The Low Point System of Appendix A will apply.

7.2 The number of discards will depend on the number of races completed as follows:

1 to 4 races completed, no discards;
5 to 7 races completed, one discard;
8 to 10 races completed, two discards;
11 or more races completed, three discards.

8 PRIZES

Prizes will be given in each fleet. There will also be prizes for improvers.

9 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

10 INSURANCE
Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of 1,000,000 per event or the equivalent.

Additional information

Camping.
Competitors aged 15 or over on 31 8.06 are allowed to camp in the dinghy park during the week (if their parents are happy for them to do so).

 

Hire boats.
There will be a limited number of Optimists and Toppers available for hire for the week. Ask at the RHYC office if you want to reserve a boat.

 Social events .
There will be a full programme of social events including a Barbeque during the week and then the essential Disco on Thursday.

 Food.
There will be a full catering service provided by the Club's caterer throughout the week.

 RHYC Regatta.
The more experienced sailors may like to enter the RHYC Regatta that precedes Junior Racing Week on Sunday 27th and Monday 28th August 2006.

 Parental help.
Please fill in the section on the entry form indicating your availability to help, even if it is for only one day . All support is welcome.
