Race Officer and Support Boat DutiesWhen you receive your copy of the Club Fixtures List, I hope you will note and diary any duties you have been allocated as a Race Officer or Support Boat Driver. We intend to send out reminders, but anyway it is always hoped that you will be able to fulfil these duties. If however, for special reasons, you are unable to do so, then we would request that you arrange your own substitute and not burden the Sailing Committee or the Office with this task. If you really have a serious problem with these duties, then please contact me and I will try to help you solve this problem. The duties allocated this year are based on responses from members to a letter sent out to all members at the end of last year and as such you should be aware of your responsibilities. Should you require any training or assistance in these areas of responsibility, I suggest you enrol on the relevant courses being run at the club, in the spring and again later in the year; or enlist the help of fellow members or friends, with the necessary experience and qualifications, to assist you with your duties. Please remember that on the occasion of your duties that as Race Officer you will need the help of some other people to assist you, and if you are the Support Boat Driver then you will need to arrange another crewmember to assist you as well. If you have read this article and also noticed that your name is not included for duties in the Fixture List but are able or willing to assist the club in this way, then I would like to hear from you. I can arrange the relevant training or assist you to gain experience in these areas. It is very important for the well being of the club that we always get sufficient Race Officers and Support Boat Drivers in order to run our racing programme successfully. Your support in these functions is very important for the well being and development of the club in general. Leigh Baxter (Vice Commodore) and The Sailing Committee.
